I strongly agree with the concern in that reddit post. Hair transplant scars shouldn’t get brushed aside like it’s some tiny detail that only an unreasonable patient would care about. We are not in 80s or 90s anymore.

For a guy who is a suitable candidate for well performed FUE and wants to keep his hair short, FUT is outdated choice. I know calling FUT outdated will annoy some of the self appointed experts on Reddit and HRN. They are welcome to disagree.

With FUE follicular units are removed through small circular excisions rather than by taking out a strip of scalp from donor. It still leaves scars. However, in carefully planned well executed fue those small scattered scars can be very difficult to notice with a short hairstyle. Punch size, healing, graft number all affect. A good surgeon matters.

**“Just keep your hair a bit longer”** replies bother me. Come on. Maybe the guy doesn’t want to keep his hair longer. Maybe he likes short haircut. Maybe he wears it longer now but doesn’t want to commit to it for rest of his life.

Saying both FUE and FUT leave scars does not settle argument. Yes, they do. The question is what those scars are likely to look like on your head, with your haircut.

Look up the world’s top 10 or top 20 hair transplant surgeons, and you’ll notice that virtually none of them still perform FUT or prefer DHI.

FUE is currently considered the gold standard, at least until a better technique comes along.

**Some examples of FUT scars. It can leave a pretty noticeable linear scar on back of head.**
